I am doing Ms.Shirley Chisholm. Ms. Chisholm was born on November 30, 1924, and died January 1, 2005. She was a West Indian- American politican , eduactor and author. She was a Congresswomen, representing New York's 12th District for seven terms from 1969 to 1983.In 1968, she became the first black woman elected to Congress. Also she became the first black women elected to Congress in January 25, 1972. Chisholm was the first major-party black candidate for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. Margrert Chase Smith, had previously run for the Republican presidential nomination). She received 152 first-ballot votes at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. Ms.Chisholm was a very important women.

In 1964, Chisholm ran for and elected to the New York State Legisature. In 1968, she ran as the Democratic candidate for New York's 12th District congressional seat and elected to the House of Representatives. Defeating the Rupublican candidate James Farmer, Chisholm became the first black women elected to Congress.
She announced her retirement from Congress in 1982. Her seat was won by a fellow Democrat, Major Owens, in 1983. After leaving Congress, Chisholm was named to the Purington Chair at Mount Holykoe Collefe in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She taught there for four years. She also lectured frequently as a public speaker!

As a African American, I would like to give thanks to Shirley Chisholm for a job well done! She acomplished alot in her life time! She set high standards for black kids and whites kids as well! Her outstanding work will be carried on for decades!
