I am doing a black history report on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Some quotes that  Martin Luther King Jr said were, "I Have A Dream" and "Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the staircase." Dr. Martin Luther King , Jr also won the Nobel Peace Prize.

 

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr. and his mother was Alberta Williams King. He had one older sister, Willie Christine King, and one younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King. King attended  Booker T. Washingtion  school. King married Coretta Scott on June 18, 1953. They had four children, Yolanda King, Dr. Martin Luther King III, Dexter King, and Bernice King.Go to fullsize imageGo to fullsize imageGo to fullsize image

Dr. King also led a bus boycott as to which became so tense that somebody bombed his house. He gave his I Have A Dream speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963.

On April 4, 1968 at 6:01 Dr. King was shot after stepping outside infront of his hotel room on the balcony. He was later buried. On his tombstone it reads "Free At Last, Free At Last, Thank God Almigthy I am free at last."

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Timeline

 

 

January 15,1929- Martin Luther King is born.

September,1935- Martin King began school at the all-black Yonge Street Elementary School in Atlanta.

June 1944- Martin Luther King enters Morehouse College in Atlanta.

February 1948- Martin Luther King is ordained as a Baptist minister. After graduating from Morehouse College in June, he enters the Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania.

June 18, 1953- Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott get married.

October 1954- Martin Luther king becomes pastor of the Dexter Avenue Church in Montgomery,Alabama.

June 1955- Martin Luther King recieves his PH.D in theology from Boston University.

November 17,1955- Yolanda Denise King, the King's first child,is born.

December 1, 1955- Mrs. Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat to a white man in Montgomery,Alabma.

December 5, 1955- Martin Luther King is elected prsiden of the Montgomery Improvement Association and leads a year long boycott of the Montgomery busses.

January 26, 1956- Martin Luther king is arressted for the first time, for a traffic violation.

January 1957- The Southern Christian Leadership Conference is founded. Dr. King is chosen president .

February 1959- Dr. King and his wife,Coretta Scott King, visit India. They study Mahatma Gandhi's methods of nonviolent protest.

January 1960- The King family moves to Atlanta Martin Luther King becomes co-pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church with his father, Martin Luther King,Sr.

February 1960- Students in Greensboro, North Carolina, stage the first "sit-ins" at "whites-only" lunch counters .

October 19,1960- Martin Luther King is jailed after being arrested at a sit-in at a lunch counter in Atlanta.

January 30,1961- Dexter Scott King is born.

May 1961- "Freedom riders" leave Washington D.C., by Greyhound bus. The bus is  burned by opponets of desgregation, and the riders are beaten upon arrival in Brimingham, Alabama.                                                                                                    September 1962- Black Student James Meredith attempts to enroll at the all-whites University of Mississippi.

March 28,1963- Bernice Albertine King is born.

April 12,1963- Martin Luther King is arrested(for the thirteenth time) in Brimingham,Alabama.

May 1963- Dogs and fire hoses are used by police to stop protests.

 August 28,1963- 250,000 people demonnstrate in Washington D.C., in support of  civil rights. Martin Luther King meets with president John F. Kennedy and delivers his "I Have A Dream" speech. 

November 22,1963- President John F. Kennedy is assassinated.

August 1964- Three young civil rights workers are found murdered in Philadelphia, Mississippi.

December 1964- Dr. Martin Luther King recieves the Nobel Peace Prize.

March 1965- Martin Luther king and SCLC begin a voter registration campaign in Alabama. Civil rights protesters attempting to march from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, Alabama, are beaten by state patrolmen.

August 1965- The 1965 Voting Right Act is signed by President Johnson.

March 28,1968- Martin Luther King leads a march in support of striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee.

April 3,1968- Martin Luther King Deliver his last speech, "I've Been to the Mountaintop."

April 4,1968- Martin Luther king is shot and killed et the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.
